Cody Teen Expedition
The Cody Teen Expedition takes adventurous teens ages 16-17 on an action-packed journey through the best New England has to offer. Raft exhilarating rapids, learn how to maneuver a schooner through Maine's coastline, and shuck clams on a deserted island. In addition to the wilderness component of our journey — we'll explore New England's coastal towns, enjoy great food, see exciting shows and complete more than 20 hours of community service!Trip Itinerary
- Day 1-2
The adventure begins at the Cody Base Camp where we participate in icebreakers and team building exercises. Friends are quickly made around the campfire as we share stories and s'mores. - Day 3-4
First up — Conquering Mt. Washington. Our group hikes the mountain and lodges at the Lake of the Clouds cabin located on the southern shoulder of Mount Washington. The cabin offers sweeping views, amazing sunrises/sunsets and proximity to a rare alpine environment. The next morning we take the summit! - Day 5
Don your wetsuit and get ready to learn how to surf on Kennebunk Beach. In the evening explore downtown Kennebunkport, grab dinner and head out for a night of dancing! - Day 6
Watch osprey and gulls wheel overhead as you learn to sail a yacht in the natural beauty of Casco Bay and Freeport. Camp out on one of Maine's historical islands, shuck clams and enjoy remarkable scenery. - Day 7-8
Paddling from our base on Peaks Island, we wander past lighthouses, through protected passages, along rocky cliffs, beneath Civil War era forts, past seal covered ledges to island retreats. We land in hidden pocket beaches, stop at an island ice cream store and camp out each night at a different island. - Day 9-10
The Kennebec River adventure begins at Harris Station Dam and immediately enters a narrow gorge, hundreds of feet deep. Quickly picking up speed, rafts plunge through huge rolling waves and heart-pounding drops. Legendary Class III and IV rapids such as "Three Sisters" and "Magic Falls" await you at every turn for over 7 miles. The second part of the river trip opens up for better views of the primitive wilderness and opportunities for "body surfing" in smaller rapids. - Day 11-12
For two days we'll focus on community service through the Mahoosuc Conservation Initiative. Joining forces with a diverse group of local, regional and national organization we'll do 20 hours of service and help the redefine how conservation happens in the Northern Forest. - Day 13
We canoe down the Ossipee River on the last leg of our journey. As the river widens into Lake Ossipee we can make out Cody Base Camp's bonfire in the distance. We are greeted with a banquet and end the evening with our traditional sweat lodge ceremony where we reflect on our eventful last two weeks.
