SWIMMING
Summer camp is one of the best places for a camper to learn to swim or
work on their strokes and techniques. Cody's swim area is completely separated
from the Cody Boat Pier. We teach to all levels of ability and interest
through the American Red Cross (ARC) "Learn to Swim" program,
levels one through seven. Cody's swim staff are certified Water Safety
Instructors and are always on-hand working in small groups or one-on-one
to ensure the greatest teaching effectiveness. Like all waterfront activities,
safety is always of primary importance, with skill instruction and fun
being the ultimate goals. Participation in the ARC swim program is optional.
SNORKELING
Explore the sandy lake bottom and try to find fish, crayfish and other
critters! Snorkeling is one of the optional activities at Cody. Campers
who want to snorkel must bring their own equipment (facemask, snorkel
and fins) to camp.
SCUBA
DIVING Scuba diving at Cody is only available to campers ages
twelve and up, and is one of the most demanding and rewarding activities
we offer. Cody campers can enroll in either NAUI or SSI courses ahead
of time (additional fees apply), and our staff will do the rest! If you
want to join this program, please be aware that it requires a serious
commitment of time and effort! However, the rewards are great! At the
end of the Passport Diver Program, which includes two hours of theory,
two confined water sessions, and two open water dives, campers can dive
with a Dive Leader, and will have completed 1/3 of the full certification
course (a full certification course can cost upwards of $400!).
CANOEING
We start with "dry land instruction", then move to the water
teaching canoeing basics and safety. As your skills develop, you'll be
able to sign up on the half-day, full-day, or overnight canoe trips that
are run all summer! More advanced canoeists can also join our one day
white-water canoe trips!
KAYAKING
Campers who enjoy canoeing often can't wait to start kayaking. Instruction
in this activity begins onshore with intensive safety and technique sessions.
Then our instructors move kayaking students to shallow water and start
training on capsize and rescue drills. When they demonstrate that they
are ready, campers can begin to kayak on the lake with Cody kayak staff
in close attendance. Like canoeing, campers can sign up for beginner,
intermediate and more advanced kayak trips that are run throughout the
summer.
SAILING
Sailing is a very popular activity. Like all activities at Cody, we teach
to beginners, intermediates and to campers with more advanced skills.
Once campers have completed their "dry land" instruction they
are ready to move to our boats. We teach on Hobie Holder 12s and the awesome
Hobie Cats. If you've always wanted to sail, or already do sail,
Cody's program is the place for you!
WIND-SURFING
Like all boat-pier activities, we start windsurfing on the land using
our "dry land training". Once safety and basic skills
and techniques have been taught, campers move down to the lake and our
windsurfing boards. Beware! Windsurfing is one of the more difficult waterfront
activities to master, but stick to it and campers will be rewarded!! There's
a reason it's considered one of their favorite activities by many campers.
WAKE-BOARDING
Like to ski? Enjoy knee-boarding? Want some variety? Then try wake-boarding
at Cody! This very popular activity is sometimes described by Cody campers
as a cross between water-skiing and snow-boarding. Either way, wake-boarding
is a very exciting waterfront activity.
KNEE-BOARDING From our youngest campers to our oldest, knee-boarding is a great favorite! This is perhaps the easiest of the "pulled-by-a-boat" activities offered at Cody, and just about every camper at Cody enjoys knee-boarding.
